Welcome to the "marketplace of ideas"
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote that the First Amendment of our great Constitution creates a "marketplace of ideas." This blog is one storefront in that marketplace.
My name is Mike Ridge, and I've wanted to be a journalist as long as I've known politicians are hopelessly corrupt. I went to journalism school at Connecticut State University to pursue that goal, to confront those abusing their power. But the world has changed since the days of Edward Murrow and Walter Cronkite, and the dinosaurs teaching at Connecticut State and writing for newspapers are well on their way to extinction. While they triple check every item and naively sit on news cloaked as rumor, the politicians work in the shadows, using our tax dollars to pad their pockets.
What I realized with each subpar grade I received at Connecticut State is that to combat this breed of politician, you cannot report based on the standards of Murrow and Cronkite. They are dead, and so is their world. You have to wade in the shadows, as well. The professors at Connecticut State rejected these ideas and threatened to not let me graduate. But I have my diploma; I am pursuing that goal; I have the attention of those in power.
I have joined the new breed of journalist. We will shine light into those shadows and pursue leads as fast as we can to confront the government machine charged with representing the flag displayed above. I report on every shred of news and rumor. Together we will get to the truth and keep the powerful in check. What's false quickly will be corrected, and what's true will bring down those who have thrived in the shadows for far too long. Welcome to my storefront in the marketplace of ideas.
